Wow, never expected this. Thought Detroit would have been the team to ice the at least one of these players for the 2012/13 season opener. I have a feeling both will receive ridiculous contracts. Discuss!

EDIT: Zach Parise 13 years $98 Million ~7.5 cap hit as per: https://twitter.com/#!/Russostrib

Suter 7,540,000 cap hit for 13 years

Crazy deals.

And our division has improved quite a bit over the off season.

crazy. I just don't think the long term contracts are generally a good idea... Luong-tract is a prime example. I mean a lot can happen even in a few years. I'm not saying Suter and Parise aren't a good investment, they probably are... but it sure locks you up for a long time. And that's sooooo much money, man alive.

I agree.. Luongo IS a good example. Guy was considered the best , or one of the best goalies.. and got paid accordingly. He probably really still is, but the pressure in Vancouver is going to make it difficult for him to succeed there. That contract will be more difficult to move to. Really, it's just silly. And not to mention, giving a guy that much who has never played on your team and might be the benefit of a good team. But I actually don't think that is the case for either UFA they signed though, at least.

I am not saying these guys are not deserving of good contracts, but do we see a drop off in Suter because Weber is not his partner anymore? If Parise just keeps scoring 25-35 goals a year will he be vilified when he is making franchise player money? That cap situation is pretty tight. What happens if the cap goes down in the new CBA? Man. Playing with fire here.

Also, injuries. Yikes! This will be either awesome or terrible for Minnesota. If they stay healthy and can maintain their levels of play, it will make them a Western Powerhouse. I just wonder about them being able to field a decent supporting cast.

Also, FUCK HEATLEY!

Aw, Parise, my guy. Why couldn't you just stay in the Eastern Conference, making 6M?

Just saw Leipold bitching about the cost of these two and how the CBA needs to be fixed. What an asshat.
